Pupil Leadership

Nurturing good pupil leaders is an important element of Gwyn Jones Primary School. Our pupils readily take on leadership roles: our Rights Respecting Ambassadors, Playground Pals, and JTA's contribute to our direction with confidence and success. We are very proud of them:

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Act as an ambassador for the school both in and out.
  • Plan, organise and promote fundraising events.
  • Represent pupil voice.
  • Work alongside the senior leadership team to continue to improve our school
  • Help the governors to make decisions on behalf of the pupils.
  • Meet regularly to feedback to the senior leadership team and governors about key decisions.

Rights Respecting Ambassadors

At Gwyn Jones School, our Unicef Rights Respecting Ambassadors play a vital role in promoting children’s rights and ensuring every pupil’s voice is heard. Inspired by the principles of UNICEF, they champion key articles from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, including Article 12 (the right to be heard), Article 2 (the right to be treated fairly), and Article 42 (the right to know about their rights). Our ambassadors lead assemblies, gather pupil voice, and support whole-school initiatives that foster respect, equality, and kindness. To take on this important role, they demonstrate confidence, empathy, responsibility, and a strong sense of fairness, enabling them to act as positive role models. Through their work, they help create a safe, inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected, reflecting our commitment to being a Rights Respecting School every day.

Please see our Rights Respecting page for more information and this year’s action plan.

Playground PALS

Our Playground Pals help to make breaktime and lunchtime calm and enjoyable, help children who are lost, lonely or upset to find friends to play with at lunchtime and help children to solve disagreements by themselves, where they can.

Wellbeing Champions

The Wellbeing Champions are a group of dedicated children who have shown a strong commitment to making a positive difference to the wellbeing of our school community. They take pride in supporting others and promoting a caring, inclusive environment. As part of their role, the Wellbeing Champions attend lunchtime wellbeing meetings where they share ideas and plan initiatives. They actively promote positive mental health by encouraging kindness, empathy, and respect among their peers. In addition, they play an important role in supporting key events such as Anti-Bullying Week and mental health awareness weeks. The children also work closely with the Rights and respecting ambassadors to gather feedback from classmates and work closely with teachers to ensure all voices are heard.

JTA (Junior Traffic Ambassador)

Our Junior Traffic Ambassadors are a dedicated and inspiring team, who bring energy, creativity and leadership in promoting safe and sustainable travel across our school and community. These hardworking students attend regular ambassador meetings, share innovative ideas, and work collaboratively to plan and support travel-focused events throughout the school year. From raising awareness about road safety to encouraging active travel like walking, cycling, and the use of public transport, they are passionate and act as positive role models who make a real difference. We are incredibly proud dedication and team work and truly value the hard work, enthusiasm and commitment they show when helping to create a safer and greener school environment for everyone.
